Financial Education, Innovation, and Wealth Creation Strategy

Building a Pathway for Wealth and Financial Security for all People Across America

Every day, more than 50 million people in America live in a financial crisis or are on the brink. Financial instability has gone mainstream, threatening our economy. It is time to make financial security for everyone in America a national priority and ensure people in America everywhere have the financial services resources to be financially secure. We are working for a strong economy with reduced wealth inequality, expanded opportunity, and shared prosperity. This transformational change requires innovation, trust, leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking. Our coalition galvanizes a diverse set of leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to solve one of our most critical financial challenges.

Facts

  • Every person in America deserves the resources they need to not only be financially stable, but to thrive in our economy. Currently, we are far from that goal.

    Here are the facts:

    • Low- and moderate-income families lost two decades of wealth following the 2008 Great Recession
    • Many Americans lack a bank account or are forced to use payday lenders or other non- traditional services that cost more out-of-pocket
    • Wages and living standards have stagnated
    • The median wealth of black households is one-tenth that of whites’
    • Women’s wealth is one-third that of men’s
    • College debt has reached record highs
    • Too many Americans have no retirement savings or pensions
    • Nearly half of all adults could not pay an unexpected $400 expense
